Welcome to the Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area’s website.  We understand that this time must be filled with mixed emotions for you and your family and want you to know that you are not alone in your journey.   We would like to suggest that in reading about Down syndrome that you take your time and digest only that information which is helpful to you. It is our philosophy that your baby is “a baby first with Down syndrome second”.

New Parents

Welcome and congratulations to you on the birth of your baby.

The birth of a new baby is most often filled with joy and wonderment however, having a child with Down syndrome can be a time filled with mixed emotions for you and your family members.  We hope that we will be of support to you and help you to realize that you are not alone.  The Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area membership consist of parents, families and friends of children with Down syndrome, who are here to share their experiences and offer support to you and your families as your unique journey begins.

We suggest you review our website and materials that are provided here which we feel will be helpful to you as you explore the new world of DS.  You have more time than you think to learn about the many challenges and blessings that lay ahead of you and at this time we encourage you to bond with your newborn and realize your baby is ”a baby first with Down syndrome second.”
